As the world adopted the remote work model in reaction of Covid-19 pandemic, a new stir of threats has emerged in the cybersecurity. Companies embracing remote work and migrating to new technologies offers more opportunities for threats and cybercrimes. Now the question always comes up that what are the threats that pose the risk in recent time?  This blog covers a different insight to the biggest cyber security threats in 2021.

1.Ransomware Threats

Ransomware is the most common threat for any company, and it has been growing in recent years. This involves a hacker who steals a company’s data and encrypt it. Afterwards he blackmails the victim for payment in return of the precious data. Recently a new trend has been evolving, which is “double-extortion” model. Where if the victim is not able to pay the ransom than the precious data is posted online for sale. In 2021, more hackers are adopting this “double extortion” model.

2.Cloud Migration

Due to Covid-19 scenario now more companies are migrating to cloud-based solutions without effective cloud security. While cloud offers many benefits, but they are still a target for attackers. Failure to implement effective cloud security is a big problem in 2021 for companies. Security of public infrastructure is a question of concern.

3.Phishing

Phishing attacks are the most common types of cyberattacks which will continue to be a major issue in 2021. To fight this companies are improving their strategies to secure their remote workforce. As in this time of remote work many companies are working through the online platforms which are vulnerable too. Cyber criminals have noticed that attacks on these platforms are more effective than through email.

4.Healthcare Cyberattacks

During the Covid-19 pandemic the healthcare industry left more vulnerable to cyberattacks. Cybercriminals are targeting healthcare sector to steal their vital resources and data. The exploitation of this sector by these cyber criminals are likely to continue to be a big problem in 2021.
