“Self-driving, self-securing and self-repairing.” – Oracle Autonomous Database
A 2016 Gartner report claimed to show Oracle holding # 1 market share worldwide based on the revenue share ahead of its four closest competitors – Microsoft, IBM, SAP and Teradata.
Autonomous Database – What and How?
Introduced in 2017, this cloud based technology is designed to automate many of the daily tasks required to manage oracle databases. An autonomous database is a cloud database that perform all the tasks and more without human intervention. This technology combines the company’s Oracle Database 18c software with a set of services that use machine learning algorithms. Combination of both is offered as Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud, Which Oracle presents as “self -driven, self-securing and self- repairing”.
Oracle Autonomous Database also automatically apply database updates and security patches, backup databases and encrypt data to protect information against unauthorized access. Autonomous database automatically repairs itself in the event of a system failure. If an error occurs, Autonomous Database collects data, analyses log and work backwards to solve the problem. From an organization point of view, using Autonomous Database could reduce the need for human labour on Oracle data management teams.
